Maintenance
Loose stone removal
All treated resin bonded surfaces must be swept off to remove excess stone within 7 days of surface installation. Sweeping should be by a mechanical sweeper or by hand.
A further mechanical sweep should also be carried out after 1-3 months to all vehicular and pedestrian areas. Sweeping can be carried out by the main contactor or client. A visual examination should be carried out to check that no or very little aggregate is left on the surface as this time.
It is most important that little or no loose aggregate remains in the surface as this could result in the bound aggregate splitting and working out the resin, resulting in degeneration of the surface. This could negate on any guarantees agreed with the installer.
General Cleaning
Oil, dirt or other common stains should be removed by applying a household detergent or similar degreaser. Apply neat to the contaminated surface using a stiff brush and allow to penetrate for 10-15 minutes, all areas should then be pressure washed or hosed down with clean water as required
For heavy contamination or for regular cleaning alternative products are can be used and are available from us. (See contact us)
Under normal external usage resin bonded surfaces require little maintenance or cleaning. In areas where high direct contamination is likely a regular blast by a suitable pressure hose is advisable.
Mechanical sweepers using metal bristles must not be used at any time.
Chewing Gum
Chewing gum should be removed by using GUM REMOVER (available from us) or for heavy contamination a specialist gum removing company should be employed. (Hydro Power systems offer this service and can be contacted on 01763 287267)
Important Note-:
Resin bonded surfaces are resistant to acid and alkali, however some staining of the aggregate may occur.
Damage Repair
Damaged surfaces should be repaired as soon as possible. Small patching kits are available on request. (Please see contact us)
Reinstatement
Where a trench has been taken out or deep intrusion made, a saw cut should be made around the surrounding area to achieve a neat and straight edge. The asphalt reinstatement must be well compacted and allowed to settle for a minimum of 28 days. The chosen resin should then be carefully butted up to the existing surface and then blinded out with the chosen aggregate. When the resin is cured the excess aggregate should be swept off.
Snow and Ice Clearance
Snow may be cleared using a rubber bladed squeegee, scraper or shovelled using a nylon bladed shovel.
Salt or grit may also be used as required.
What substrates can the Resin bonded aggregates be applied to?
Bituminous - Depending on surface usage these specifications alter. Please contact us for more information.
Concrete
Newly installed concrete should be finished to a wooden float finish and allowed a minimum of 28 days to cure or have a moisture level below 75% RH. Light scabbling or diamond grinding of the surface is recommended to ensure a good key prior to application of primer.
Existing concrete surfaces should be scabbled or diamond ground to provide a key. Prepared surfaces should then be primed with primer. If the concrete surface is contaminated with oil, water or other liquid contamination it should be heat blasted. Primer should then be applied to the warm surface. Any unevenness or cracks should be repaired prior to application of the resin.
Timber
Timber surfaces must be clean, dry and sanded prior to application of the primer. The primer should be allowed to soak in to the timber and cure before the chosen resin and aggregate are applied.
Very dense timber may prevent the resin adhering, if in doubt a small sample area should be carried out to confirm suitability.
Steel
Steel surfaces should be shot blasted to SA2.5 and the primed with primer.
